Now the gossip about the gorgeous International, hunk of man, actor, Juan Pablo Di Pace, coming out of the closet is wonderful news for many of us.  Trust me.  I am not mad at all.  In our brief 8 minutes together, I was so flustered, because chile, he's HAWT! He looks right into your eyes as he speaks to you with that Argentinian accent.  It is almost impossible to handle all of that with any kind of grace, especially when you are not prepared for all of that hotness wrapped in kindness.  At the time, I chose not to get all in his business, because honestly, it is none of my business.  Although, our mutual love of Chita Rivera should have been my clue, but I let it slide as Latin Pride.  Yes, I can totally see him in a revival of Kiss Of The Spiderwoman.   In any case, he is delightful. So, I hope that whatever prompted him to public ownership of himself was rooted in positivity.  I also hope that the industry lets him continue to be a commercially successful artist, and he gets to use his platform to make this world a little brighter.  Bienvenidos a La Familia, Juan!!!

I hope that you know that my earnest conversations with you fab guys has been very popular on my podcast. I believe it is because after the tittering and kiki about the camp factor of your show, we also talked about what was absolutely genuine, brave, and wonderful about your show.  Sometimes, grabbing for low hanging fruit is just easy.  Obviously, he did not try to talk to any of you before seeing the show, because that would have given him a better perspective, instead of reaching for snark.  Remember that unfortunate moment of shadiness is going to haunt him a lot longer than it will bother you.  Heads up, teets out, and keep stepping, cuz huntys, ain't nobody got time for that.  I adore you all.

PRIDE and PODCAST

HAPPY PRIDE!!! 

Just in time for the 50th Anniversary of The Stonewall Riots that started the Gay Liberation Movement leading to the LGBTQIAA Community and countless numbers of PRIDE festivities happening all over the world, my podcast would like to take a moment and throw some love to some of the out and open performers working in theater today that have stopped by for a chat with me. Having made many strides in visibility, even professions like acting and performing had been plagued by a sort of Lavender Scare of its own. Closeted performers hid and still do hide their identity in order to advance their careers. For many of us in today’s world, it seems crazy to continue that charade. So, for the few and proud who are letting their light shine, I want to take a moment and just say, “HAPPY PRIDE!!!” and “ Hey, gurl, Hey!” 

 Gregory Allen Playwright, Screenwriter, Author, Actor stopped by my show to talk about what was his latest project,HIDING IN DAYLIGHT. Since that conversation, he’s turned that short play into a short film that recently celebrated a turn at the Cannes Film Festival. This particular piece speaks to the seemingly frightening place that our country MIGHT become. Usually he takes part in the annual Tony Predictions Show, but since he was at Cannes, he just sent his in via email. Please enjoy my conversation with this Out and Proud visionary.

He is another one of those names that you need to know now, before the rest of the world discovers him. When he sat with me, he was promoting his cabaret show at the legendary supper club, Feinstein’s 54 Below. So in addition to his duties on Broadway, he will be participating in a new series called, Broadway Buskers, where he, along with a roster of other fabulous Broadway talent,will be beguiling Historic Times Square with his dulcet tones and some of his original music. Jenn Colella is a Drama Desk Award winning , Tony Award Nominated, Actress, singer, comedian,  who stole my heart as the busy body gossip columnist, Hedda Hopper, in CHAPLIN, and then stole the world’s heart as American Airlines pilot, Beverly Bass, in the Award Winning Musical, COME FROM AWAY. Although she stays attached to the show, she is workshopping a new Shaina Taub musical about the Suffragettes, and she will play the boy who won't grow up in Peter Pan this summer as part of Pittsburgh CLO's 2019 Summer Season. She and I had a great out and open conversation that included everything. I do have a mad crush on her, and you will too. Please revisit my conversation with her.

Tony Award Nominated Actor/Singer , Max Von Essen, is one of the most dashing and talented men of Broadway. We met when he was nominated for the Tony Award for AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. Singer,Actress, and Impressionist, Carly Sakolove, caught me by surprise this year in her fun and amazing performance in Off Broadway’s The Book Of Merman. She has been an off and on cast member of Off Broadway’s The Wondrous Marvelletes, too. After announcing her recent engagement to her fiance, did I realize that she was living her fullest and best life as a complete artist. Choreographer and budding fitness guru, Joseph Corella, and I met at his vibrant and fabulous booth at 2019 Broadway Con for his Broadway themed exercise video and classes. He’s creating the type of fitness craze that finally folks who love them some Broadway, can get fit to music that they know and love, with steps that you can learn and enjoy. He recently had a major national launch for 5,6,7, BROADWAY Along with his hunk of a lawyer husband, Joseph’s fitness empire is well on its way. 2019 Drama Desk Awards Have Come and Gone

The penultimate award show leading up to the Tony© Awards is the Drama Desk© Awards.  It is a celebration of both Broadway and Off Broadway theater.  In addition to the standard performance prizes for acting, music, sets, writing, and costumes, there are other categories like, Fight Coordinating, Hair and Wigs, Projections, and more.   I fortunately got a chance to work the Red Carpet and the Press Room.  I love working the Drama Desk Awards, because I get the chance to meet some of the new voices that are making interesting and innovative theater.   The list of nominees and winners show the vitality and ingenuity of American theater today. BROADWAY HD Streams Different Theater Stages From Around the World Right To You

Multiple Award Winning (Tony©, Olivier©, Drama Desk©, etc., ), Broadway power producing couple, and founders of Broadway HD, Bonnie Comley and Stewart Lane, stopped by for a chat about what's the latest happening with them and Broadway HD, including the release of the recent, West End Production of 42ND STREET, choreographed by Tony Award© Nominee, Randy Skinner, currently streaming on their service.

Dance! Dance! Dance!

After coming out of the 2019 Chita Rivera Awards, I notice that my affinity for dancers and choreographers has been a burgeoning love.   In previous episodes, I have had dalliances with Andy Blankenbeuhler (BANDSTAND, HAMILTON, IN THE HEIGHTS), Christopher Gatelli ( CHER, SPONGEBOB, NEWSIES) and Joshua Bergasse (SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, SWEET CHARITY). But just in the past 2 weeks, you may have heard some of my moments reuniting with papi chulo, Sergio Trujillo (AIN'T TOO PROUD, JERSEY BOYS, SUMMER), Warren Carlyle( KISS ME KATE, HELLO DOLLY), David Neumann (HADESTOWN), the Kuperman Brothers (ALICE BY HEART), Shea Sullivan( NEUROSIS THE MUSICAL), and my first choreographer boyfriend in my head, Denis Jones (TOOTSIE, HOLIDAY INN, FLAMINGO KID).  Outside of Shea Sullivan, there are certainly a lot of men, huh?  As we move through the awards season, I had a great chance to meet 2 other women who are nominated for the last 2 awards given out this season, The Drama Desk Award© and of course, The Tony Award©.

2019 Chita Rivera Awards Show and Red Carpet Are A Blast

The 2019 Chita Award Show Red Carpet is the best place to see the hottest dancers and choreographers in one place honoring Broadway, Off Broadway, and Film's finest works of Dance. 

Every year that I get the great fortune to cover the Chita Rivera Awards, I LOVE every minute of it. The most fun that can be had on the Red Carpet before all of the fabulousness begins.  It is a blast every time.  You never know what things you have in common with these dynamic people in the most random of ways.   Naomi Kakuk and I's jaw dropping reunion and David Neumann's connection to someone from his past were my two personal favorite random moments EVER! The red carpet starts off a little slow and then moves with heated pace.  So many great folks and so little time to chat, but please enjoy the fun and folly.

2019 Drama Desk Nominees Reception Is Always A Good Moment

As you already know, the 2019 Tony Award Nominations have been announced.  Of course, I have plenty to say about them, but it is so much more fun to dish with friends.  This year , Paul Winkler (actor, theater lover, and social media baby),  Ken Finkelstein (Broadway Bon Vivant and Enthusiast), Gregory Allen via email ballot(actor/author/playwright/screenwriter/producer), and I, take a look at this year's nominees in ALL of the categories.  From the heavily lauded Hadestown to almost ignored Be More Chill, the nominees run the gamut.  I will admit that I am bummed that Orfeh & Eric Anderson from Pretty Woman, Angie Schworer & Christopher Sieber from The Prom, Leslie Kritzer and Alex Timbers from Beetlejuice were all ignored.  I will move on, and as long as they are treading the boards to packed houseS, they will somehow manage.  Please note that opinions expressed are those of the individuals expressing them.  Please enjoy the fun and sometimes dishy predictions.

OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN IS REMEMBERED SINCERELY

SINCERELY OSCAR is a new Off Broadway musical celebrating one of Broadway's greatest lyricist, Oscar Hammerstein. With a book by Doreen Taylor, who also stars along with Azudi Onyejekwe,  this show / musical revue takes you through some of the most fantastic and iconic songs associated with Mr. Hammerstein, and a few more deep cuts from shows of which you might not know.  The show also uses his words from letters and speeches to create a narrative through line. In addition to my chat with the both Doreen and Azudi,  I also got to sneak in a chat with the show's Musical Director and Arranger, Lou Lanza. His arrangements will leave you wanting a cast album available before you leave that theater.   Under the direction of Dugg McDonough , the show also is the first to bring some audio visual "WOW"  Factor by using hologram technology as part of the show.
