KAREN PITTMAN: Award winning actress is back on the boards at Lincoln Center in Dominique Moriseau's PIPELINE.

Whenever I get a chance to talk to or spend time with Award Winning Actress of stage and screen, Karen Pittman, it turns into a fabulous time.  She is currently at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, in Dominique Morisseau's latest, conscious grabbing play, PIPELINE.  I love that newly produced plays are getting to tell stories to which more and more people can relate. This piece takes a look at something that is a trouble to not only our young people of color, but to all of our kids. Not being a parent,  I do not pretend to understand the complications and joy that being a parent brings, especially with this new generation of kids.  However, I was someone's son of color, growing up in Texas during the 70's,80's and 90's.  It wasn't all that fabulous on this side, either.

This play introduces a familiar conversation about race relations and our youth of color in this country.   What is so shocking is that we are still in a need to have them.  In any case, click HERE  and please enjoy my conversation with the amazing KAREN PITTMAN.

Bringing Laughter To You in the Lavender Laugh Lounge

Now that the Tony Awards have come and gone, it becomes a waiting game for what is new. Until then, I thought that I would share another artisan of performance: The Comedian. Doing monologues on a stage is EXACTLY what comedians do. Some of them also make it to Broadway like Janeane Garafalo, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Billy Crystal, Will Ferrell, Jerry Seinfeld, and Chris Rock to name a few. SO, in an effort to open the door a little and perhaps introduce you to another one of the training grounds that some Broadway folks have traveled, I am introducing keith Prices Curtain Call's Lavender Laugh Lounge. It will be another place to visit inside my Curtain Call world. This will be a great opportunity for fans of comedy to perhaps discover some Broadway, and vice versa. In any case, I hope that you enjoy the many additional conversations to come, along with the folks you will know or get to know from the theater world.

My first guest, Allison Castillo, is an old friend from my comedy days. She and I have a wonderfully long history in our NYC climb to the top. She is a comedian, actress, director, producer, podcaster, author, and all around bon vivant. She and I got our footing in the NYC Comedy scene during the same period. It has been fabulous to watch our rises and falls together, while laughing the entire way. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the insanely fabulous. uber talented, Allison Castillo. I hope you will enjoy getting some extra laughs and shade in the The Lavender Laugh Lounge.

Look Ma, I'm On TV!!!

I recently had the great pleasure and fortune to be asked to be on NY 1's On Stage show, as a guest critic.  After all of the interviews, press events, and so many other events that I truly love to cover, it is really nice to have a special moment like this, talking about something I really love.  Thank you to Frank DiLella for asking me to be a part of it.  Thank you to my birthday sister, Roma Torre, for being so generous, and to the rest of the crew that made it happen.   Hopefully, this will be the first of many.  Maybe NY 1 Onstage might need an extra hand on deck for the Tony Awards Red Carpet?  Hey, you never know.  In any case, enjoy this fabulous show and look for me around minute 20:00 in the full show, and make sure that you enjoy all of the deliciousness of that Frank DiLella, Tituss Burgess, Sutton Foster, Mario Cantone, Matthew Perry, Alex Lacamoire, and so many more.

RODNEY HICKS Celebrates Gratitude, Kindness, and Generosity In Life and Onstage in COME FROM AWAY

Considering the current climate that this country seems to find itself, it is safe to assume that when you see the celebrated and award winning, multi-Tony Award nominated, hit show, Come From Away, you cannot help but to feel as if your faith in human beings and the capacity to just be good to each other is completely restored.  Rodney Hicks is one of the celebrated actors in this piece, and like with the entire cast, I am blown away by his talent and work in this show.  After my chat with Caesar Samayoa, I knew that I had to have Rodney, and I am not even gonna pretend that I am not begging for Jenn Colella and the rest of that amazing cast, too.  Primarily, because I do not think that this story could be told without these amazing talents.  My goal will be to feature the entire cast on this podcast.

The best part about my chat with Rodney is that it's more than an interview.  It really is a conversation.  We talk about some of the real issues that made for some great humor for his main character, as well as, what it means to take in moments of gratitude.  He also talks about how this show has been such a present to his life in so many ways.  Click HERE to listen to this fabulous actor from a fabulous show.

VIVIAN REED, 2X Tony Award Nominee, is back with a new album, Standards and More

Many times you get the opportunity to meet many of your favorite people who have worked in this industry and have blazed trails for many, and 2x Tony Award nominee, Vivian Reed, is one of those people.  From her first visit with me last summer to promote her live show, Standards and More, I felt like I just met another Auntie Mame.  She is still knocking them out in her live shows around the country, and now she has recorded some selected songs from the show that are now available everywhere you can get music.  Standards and More shows that Ms. Vivian is still turning it out and taking names!!!

Relying On The Kindness of "Not So" Strangers

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend a press event at one of my favorite places, Feinstein's 54 Below.  If you really follow the podcast, then you may have heard one of my many conversations from my favorite banquet in town. The space is always magical, and on this particular day it bordered on being miraculous.  I quickly rushed to set up for the amazing back to back interviews with Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Lea Salonga, Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie and her fabulously talented, award winning, husband, the amazing Jason Danieley.

As I brilliantly ended what I thought was my last interview, I got very excited because I came with my editing equipment,  and I knew that I had some downtime before the singing performances began to download my FABULOUS interviews.  Well, there was NOTHING on my recorder.

I literally felt my entire heart just sink.  I say that because I talked to these people truly from the heart, and I was certain it was recording.  During my inner panic, I calmly called over to the publicist who put the event together and told him my plight.  I also decided to go to the Zen place within me.  I just spent about 20 mins talking to some of the most amazing people working in the biz. To have Jason say that he was rooting for my insane campaign to be the host of the Tonys, meant EVERYTHING!  Catching up with Lea about her life as a working mom with an extraordinary gig is awesome, especially when she really does remember chatting with me.  Of Course, anytime with Stokes is always the best.   I felt that our time together transcended a typical interviewer and his interviewees scenario. I managed to get pictures and shoot some video.  If this was all that the Theater Gods would allow with no audio proof, then I would be happy and blog about it.

with the ab fab Lea Salonga

Chatting and laughing with Broadway Power Couple, Jason Danieley and Marin Mazzie

After talking with the amazing event publicist,  Brett Oberman, and his amazing team  managed to get each and everyone of those wonderful people to come back and give me more time to reconnect and make something happen again.  I get a little misty when I think about how generous these people were to me with their time.  It was weird to sort of recreate some of that interview energy, but what was great about the whole experience? I actually think the second set of interviews were better and still filled with even more gratitude than the first round.

The gracious, suave, and debonair Brian Stokes Mitchell
Again, I publicly thank Lea Salonga, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin Mazzie, and Jason Danieley, for showing me that level of kindness.  I hope you enjoy my conversations with these amazing people.  If you are coming to NYC during the run of any of these amazing people's shows, then think about adding their show to your list of events "to do" on your visit. Click on their pics to find out how to get tickets for their shows at Feinstein's 54 Below, and click HERE to hear my interviews with these amazing people.

Top 20 Most Popular Episodes in Year 1: #17- 2x Tony Award Winning, living legend, Chita Rivera.

As the Top 20 Most Popular Episodes of Year 1 continues,  #17's entry is the one and only, 2x Tony Award winning, living legend, Ms. Chita Rivera.  She took a little time out of her stroll down the red carpet for the 2016 Drama Desk Awards, and chatted with me about still making it POP, at her age.  That pic of Chita and I was taken outside the stage door of her show The Dancer's Life in 2005.   I was holding a pic of the first time that we met almost 8 years prior.  Even though we chatted briefly, I must say that she is truly one of my favorite people to have ever met.  I am hoping to have a much longer conversation with her.  Hopefully, we can add another level to this picture.  Click Here to hear my moment with a true, gracious, living legend.

Top 20 Most Popular Episodes in Year 1: #18- Tony Award Nominee, Jennifer Damiano

Tony Award Nominee, Jennifer Damiano, enters the countdown at Number 18.  We chatted about her then upcoming show at Feinstein's 54 Below.  She is truly, as the kids say, "Totes Adorbs".  I had a great time talking to her. She recently finished her run in AMERICAN PSYCHO, and she is performing concerts all over the country and awaiting her next role.  Click Here to hear my wonderfully light and fun conversation with Ms. Jennifer.
